agenda
- G. Kiss begins the meeting with an update about the ongoing spring courses, thanks to the help of PhD students and external lecturers, the Department managed to launch enough courses despite the significantly increased student numbers. This spring, DELG is running 17 Introduction to Linguistics seminars, a record number. All seminar groups have an average of 16–18 students.
- G. Kiss reminds the Department that if the trend of admitting a large number of (mostly OTAK) students continues, the Department will have to think about various options of how we can fulfill the increased demand for seminar courses, especially considering that from autumn, DELG will potentially have fewer PhD students who can help teaching courses. A discussion of the options is proposed to take place in March when the scheduling of the autumn courses starts.
- Two colleagues will leave the Department from 1 September, the search for potential candidates to fill their positions will take place in the spring.
- A new special external lecturer position (“kiemelt külsős óraadó”) has been launched by the Faculty this spring, currently two colleagues teach in this format at DELG. They will also help during the examination period, including participating in the final exam committees. This teaching option will be open in the autumn, too, and possibly beyond.
- G. Kiss informs the Department that SEAS has received new rooms (of various sizes) in the Rákóczi út 5 building. DELG itself will not get new rooms but we can schedule courses in any of the new ones, too.
- Krek-Polyák asks the core members to help him update the list of names responsible for subjects, as well as providing some missing course descriptions.
- G. Kiss asks the Department to make sure our MA students (specialising in theoretical linguistics) can always join our elective courses because they find it very difficult to collect enough credits to complete their studies. Our MA students can also take courses at the Theoretical Linguistics Department, if a student wants to take a course there, they are encouraged to contact G. Kiss, who will help with this.
- G. Kiss recommends that there not be online examinations for any of our lecture courses, starting from this summer.
- DELG will review and potentially revise both the recommended BA/MA thesis topics and the final examination questions+reading lists (for both BA and MA).
- G. Kiss gives a short overview of theses to be submitted this spring.
- G. Kiss also reminds the Department that it is possible to apply for money to cover small catering expenses at conferences, including Össznyelvész.
- DELG has received a large screen TV on a mobile stand which will be placed in room 327, the set has an inbuilt camera, too. Room 326 has also been furbished with a projector + mini PC. Unfortunately, the wiring was very sloppily fitted, Krek-Polyák has promised to make the wiring situation better. Overall, DELG now basically has two rooms that are suitable for smaller workshops, one of which (327) is now also suitable for online conferences. G. Kiss also suggests that a new whiteboard be fitted in room 442 to replace the old blackboard as the chalk in the small room may cause allergic reactions.
- Szigetvári informs the meeting about the Publishing Unlocked Workshop and that The Even Yearbook 2024 is finally out.
