We, members of the School of English and American Studies at Eötvös Loránd University, express our solidarity with our colleagues at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). After more than a year of cynical inactivity, the government of Hungary has achieved that the country’s most successful university, CEU, was forced to leave Hungary. But this does not satisfy the autocratic regime, it now attacks its own top academic institution, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. We find these barbaric acts against free thought in a member state of the European Union outrageous and absolutely unacceptable.
